The three things a trade can cost — in plain words
Trading costs look complicated until they are sorted into three lines, and most of the time only the first one applies.
The spread comes first. Every instrument has two prices at any moment — one to buy and one to sell — and the small gap between them is the spread. It is not deducted as a separate item: a position simply opens a fraction below break-even and needs that much movement in its favour before it shows a profit. On the account types with $0 commission the spread is the entire cost of the trade itself.
The commission is second, and only on the account types that use it. There the spread is pushed close to zero and a fixed amount per lot is charged instead — once when the position opens and once when it closes. Which arrangement works out cheaper depends on what is traded and how often; on a small occasional position the difference is measured in cents.
The overnight swap is third, and it appears only if a position is still open at the end of the trading day. It can be negative or positive, because it is an interest adjustment rather than a service charge — which is also why it is removed entirely on a swap-free account.
Everything around the trade sits outside those three lines. Exness charges nothing for deposits or withdrawals, though a payment provider may take its own cut; there is no charge for leaving an account idle, and none for using the platforms, the demo or the calculators.
